Nugget: The Playroom Essential You Didn’t Know You Needed

Now that we’ve been in our “new” home for 2 years, I feel mostly settled.  Although we still have many ideas for the future, we’ve gradually made this house feel like our home and have figured out how to maximize each space. Most rooms are obviously designated without much thought- kitchen, living room, bedroom, etc.  However, the “flex” room off our entry area has been a challenge.  I’m sure many of you have a similar room and can relate to the frustration of wasted space in your house.  Originally, this room was set up as an office. But not a “real” office because there was no door to make it quiet enough to do actual work.  I recently decided to make this area a playroom and I’m excited to share the product that inspired this transformation! You’re going to love this little Nugget of information.

Nugget love

I found the Nugget on Instagram and man is it awesome!  I’m usually skeptical of the products that show up on my Facebook or Instagram feed, but this one did not disappoint. It’s the best “toy” you can buy for your kiddos if they like fort building and imaginary play.  Below you can see my daughter’s signature house, chimney and all, ha!

The 4 piece Nugget couch includes a thick foam base layer, a softer and thinner foam top layer and 2 triangular cushions. The possibilities for play are truly endless, but at the end of the day, it sits as a pretty piece of furniture that doesn’t scream “PLAYROOM”. (Unless you want it too, they have lots of fun colors available!)

I love that it’s something my girls can play with together, this can be hard to find with a 5-year-old and a crawler.

Also, playing on the floor with the kids is more tolerable when I have something soft and comfy to lounge on.  🙂  We love how easy it is to move the Nugget play couch from room to room! It has discrete fabric handles that make it perfect for moving to the living room for movie night, or for moving to our bedroom floor when the loud bangs of a thunderstorm send our 5-year-old into our room in the middle of the night.

In my opinion, the value is awesome! You get a piece of furniture and a toy that your child won’t outgrow anytime soon, all for around $230 (buy it here).

Nugget Pros

  • Possibilities for play are endless
  • Affordable
  • No age limit
  • Can double as a small bed for sleepovers
  • Easy to clean/machine washable cover
  • Handles for easy moving
  • Attractive and can blend into any space with many color options

Nugget Cons

  • Shipping takes awhile- They are very upfront about the fact that these are made one order at a time.  They guarantee you will have your order within 4 weeks (we waited about 3).  Honestly, this is a good thing, they pay attention to detail and don’t let themselves get sloppy with the craftsmanship.  Buuuuuut, in a world  of Amazon Prime, its hard to wait. 🙂

Below I’ve included some pictures of our new playroom!

So do yourself a favor and buy this play couch. I love how this piece of furniture inspired me to make our “flex” room a functional playroom! My kids spend a lot of time in this space and I love that the room still feels pretty enough to be one of the first things you see when you enter my home.

Also, this post is in no way sponsored by Nugget, does not include any affiliate links, and all opinions are my own.  I just feel strongly about the quality and value that you get with the Nugget and have to share 🙂

As always, thanks for reading!

I’m thinking of getting one of these for our “flex” room. It’s an office/playroom/guest room. Is this comfortable for an adult to sit on? How has the light gray color held up, that’s the color I’m considering. Also, could an adult sleep on it (nothing long term, just a night or so). Thank you!

Hi Emily! The couch has held up wonderfully, no issues with the fabric at all. It’s definitely comfortable enough to sleep on occasionally, the base is a thicker, harder foam, and the top section is a thinner soft and comfortable layer. Our daughter uses it to sleep on our bedroom floor during thunderstorms (that way everyone actually sleeps, instead of her taking over our entire bed 😂)

Hi! Thank you for the information and inspiration. What color is your nugget?

    Thanks.

Hi Allison! I have the color “Koala”. Hope this helps!

Can you tell me about the top on the bucket that you are using as a table? I’d like to figure out some sort of end table

    1. liz@basicallyliz.com

Hi Amber! I flipped the wash bucket upside down and traced the outline on a piece of plywood. I added about a 1/4-1/2 inch extra all the way round to make a small overhang. Once the wood was cut to size, I used a little bit of batting for some cushion then covered the top with fabric and stapled into place. It’s been so long, I’m trying to figure out what I used to hold the top in place…. It looks like I drilled holes and hammered (coated with a little wood glue so they don’t fall out over time) rubber coated shelf pins just inside the underside perimeter, 3-4 is plenty. This makes it so the top is actually secure and the pins hit the inside of the wash bin to hold it in place.
      I hope this helps!

Hello I’m currently staring at a paint swatch trying to figure out what color is on the bottom half of your wall in the play room behind the nugget couch. Do you happen to know the paint name? Thanks so much

    1. liz@basicallyliz.com

Hi Christi! We no longer live in that house, but I called the local Sherwin Williams store to see if they could look it up for me and they said it’s a “Light Almond Custom Match” so I think the painters that builder used must have had this custom color mixed for them. Maybe if you take that picture to your local Sherwin Williams along with that information they may be able to help get you pretty close. I’m sorry I couldn’t find the exact color name for you.
